US financial firm allegedly fires 80-member Indian team via Google Meet

An entire customer service team of 80 employees in India was allegedly terminated by a US-based financial firm during a five-minute Google Meet call.

According to reports based on an employee's account on Reddit, the staff had been instructed to work from home that day due to what were described as “operational reasons.” During a late-evening shift, the employees were unexpectedly invited to a virtual meeting where they were informed of their immediate dismissal.

The employee claimed the company cited a lack of “expected output” from the Indian team as the reason for the layoffs, a claim the worker disputed. The incident has gained significant attention on social media, raising questions regarding corporate practices, severance, and the impact of outsourcing and automation on global workforces.
