Humanoid combat robots undergo first tests on Ukrainian front
U.S. startup Foundation Future Industries (FFI) is conducting its first field trials of the Phantom MK‑1 humanoid combat robot in Ukraine. The tests focus on logistical and reconnaissance tasks, with the robot measuring about 1.8 m tall, weighing 80 kg and capable of carrying up to 40 kg of payload while moving at up to 6.1 km/h. It uses artificial‑intelligence navigation, but any lethal‑force decision remains under human operator control.
The Ukrainian defence‑innovation platform Brave1 is coordinating a funding programme to accelerate the development of armed humanoid platforms, aiming to reduce soldier exposure on the battlefield and provide precision strike capability that could limit civilian casualties. Founder and CEO Sankaet Pathak says the technology represents “the next stage of precise military actions,” filling a gap left by drones in ground combat. Early test results have been positive, though the system is still in development and not yet ready for large‑scale deployment. Investors such as Eric Trump have backed the project, underscoring growing interest in AI‑driven battlefield robotics.
