U.S. Forces Begin Withdrawal from Erbil Military Compound in Iraq

The United States military has started pulling its remaining troops out of the complex near Erbil International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, after dismantling and redeploying Patriot air‑defence systems. The reduction began last week and is proceeding to meet the September 30 deadline agreed with Baghdad for a complete U.S. withdrawal.

In parallel, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al‑Zubaidi chaired a meeting to review and approve the final draft of the government programme, with the Council of Ministers and senior advisers, preparing it for submission to parliament. United Anbar Alliance member Muhammad al‑Fahdawi said all political blocs have agreed to accelerate the formation of the ministerial cabinet, with a parliamentary session planned for early August to decide on the cabinet appointments.
