CENTCOM destroys Iran-linked vessel in Gulf of Oman

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the destruction of an Iranian-affiliated dhow in the Gulf of Oman on October 6. Military officials stated the vessel was conducting surveillance and targeting U.S. Navy warships. The crew was successfully evacuated prior to the strike, and repatriation efforts are ongoing.

This operation occurs amid an intensified U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, which was reinstated on July 14, 2026. Since the blockade's resumption, CENTCOM reports that 135 ships have been turned back and 10 IRGC-linked tankers have been destroyed. Additionally, on October 10, U.S. forces disabled the Panama-flagged cargo ship M/V Ocean Molica after it attempted to breach the blockade.

Regional tensions have escalated following the sinking of the Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride near the Strait of Hormuz. While the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims the vessel sank after striking a naval mine in a restricted zone, CENTCOM and Singaporean authorities report it was struck by an unidentified projectile. A second Singapore-registered vessel, the GFS Giselle, was also reportedly struck by a projectile on October 14, though it remained afloat.
