US forces enforce Iran blockade in Strait of Hormuz
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American forces have redirected 68 commercial vessels, disabled three, and boarded two others to enforce a blockade against Iran. These operations are taking place amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit route.
More than 20 warships are currently supporting the blockade. Recent activities include MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter operations on the USS Ross (DDG 71) and MV-22B Osprey utility aircraft operations from the USS Boxer (LHD 4) in the Arabian Sea. The increased US naval presence follows ongoing disputes with Iran regarding maritime security, sanctions, and nuclear issues.
