U.S. forces launch 50 Patriot missiles in one day amid Iranian attacks

U.S. forces in the Middle East launched approximately 50 Patriot interceptors in a single day during a period of intense Iranian attacks, incurring costs of roughly $200 million. Each interceptor is valued at approximately $4 million.

Targeted strikes by Iran were primarily directed at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq, Jordan, a key installation for the U.S. Air Force. While Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on April 8 that Iran’s missile program was ‘functionally destroyed’ and its launchers ‘exhausted, decimated, and almost completely ineffective,’ reports indicate Iran has excavated new locations to continue strikes.

These ongoing hostilities have threatened maritime transit in the Strait of Hormuz and posed risks to U.S. troops in the region. Despite initial assumptions by the Trump administration that the conflict would be brief, experts note that Iranian leadership has maintained readiness throughout the five-month conflict.
