US Coast Guard intercepts tanker Grace carrying fuel to Cuba FAST-MOVING

The US Coast Guard has intercepted the cargo ship Grace in the Caribbean Sea, which was allegedly transporting fuel to Cuba. The vessel, a 300-foot tanker, was stopped on September 5 while suspected of employing 'dark fleet' tactics—such as disabling tracking systems and using deceptive maneuvers—to evade international sanctions.

Following the boarding, US authorities escorted the Grace to the port of Progreso in Yucatan, Mexico. There, the Mexican Navy conducted an inspection that confirmed the presence of large quantities of fuel hidden within the ship's ballast tanks and several containers. This operation was part of a coordinated international effort to enforce the US oil blockade against Cuba.

The seizure follows a similar incident in June, when the US Coast Guard intercepted the Jaira Provider, a vessel carrying approximately 200,000 gallons of fuel. These enforcement actions occur amid a severe energy crisis in Cuba, exacerbated by US-imposed restrictions and the loss of traditional energy supplies from Venezuela following the removal of Nicolás Maduro from power.
