US Citizen Richard Panas arrested in Mérida, Mexico

Mexican federal authorities have detained Richard Panas, a 68-year-old US citizen, in Mérida, Yucatán. Panas is considered a priority target by the United States government and faces four active arrest warrants in Florida.

The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Mexican Navy (Semar), the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General's Office (FGR) through its Criminal Investigation Agency, and the National Institute of Migration (INM). Authorities link Panas to a criminal cell specialized in fraud and identity theft.

During the surveillance and identification process, officials determined that Panas could not prove legal residency in Mexico. He has been transferred to the National Institute of Migration to proceed with deportation processes. The Mexican Security Cabinet emphasized that the arrest was conducted in accordance with international security cooperation and respect for national sovereignty.
