U.S. gas prices show regional divergence in Idaho and Indiana

Gasoline prices are showing divergent trends across different U.S. states. In Idaho, average prices have risen to $4.49 per gallon, marking a one-dollar increase compared to last year. AAA officials attribute this upward trend to high crude oil prices, currently around $85 per barrel, and distribution challenges in the West. While prices in Idaho have seen recent weekly increases, experts suggest demand may stabilize as summer travel decreases.

Conversely, Indiana has experienced a weekly price drop of 7.8 cents, bringing the state average to $3.50 per gallon. This decline stands in contrast to the broader national trend, where the U.S. average gasoline price rose by 2.9 cents to $4.05 per gallon. Analysts suggest that while some regions see relief, international supply bottlenecks and refinery disruptions continue to exert upward pressure on fuel costs nationwide. Additionally, diesel prices saw a significant national increase of 16.6 cents over the past week.
