U.S. gasoline prices climb to $4.06 per gallon amid geopolitical tensions

The national average price of gasoline in the United States rose 10.8 cents in the past week, reaching $4.06 per gallon on Sunday. Compared with a month ago, it is up 23.9 cents, and it stands 95.6 cents higher than a year ago, based on GasBuddy data covering more than 150,000 stations.

In Texas, the average price increased 12.5 cents to $3.67 per gallon, with the cheapest station at $2.99 and the most expensive at $5.44. The national diesel average also rose, now $5.255 per gallon.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributed the price gains to “continued escalations between the U.S. and Iran, renewed Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, and fresh Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries,” though a recent pullback in hostilities offered modest relief. Motorists are expected to face elevated pump prices in the near term, with further changes dependent on geopolitical developments.
