US GDP growth forecast maintained at 2.2% by Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs has maintained its 2026 US GDP growth forecast at 2.2%. Despite the pressures of rising interest rates and oil prices, strong consumer spending has helped offset sluggish housing investment and energy costs.

While rising interest rates placed a roughly 2.6 percentage point burden on housing investment, they were partially mitigated by growth in consumer and corporate investment. Additionally, while higher oil prices were expected to lower GDP by 0.1 percentage points for every $10 increase, a recovery in energy capital expenditure helped cushion the impact. The bank noted that consumer spending has remained unexpectedly resilient, acting as a primary driver of economic recovery.
