US Gen Z consumers show high interest in Chinese car brands

A survey by Cox Automotive reveals that 69% of Generation Z consumers in the United States would consider purchasing Chinese automotive brands if they were available in the US market. This interest is driven largely by rising vehicle prices, with the average new car in the US costing approximately $50,000.

In contrast, Chinese electric vehicles offer significantly lower price points; for example, the BYD Dolphin Surf is priced at roughly $25,000 in Europe. Approximately 49% of survey respondents noted that Chinese brands provide good value for money.

Despite this consumer interest, Chinese manufacturers like BYD and Geely currently face significant barriers to entry in the US. These include high import tariffs—specifically a 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles—as well as various trade regulations and technological restrictions.
