US global standing faces scrutiny amid conflicting claims of respect

President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States is 'respected again' on the world stage, asserting that international leaders show increased deference during his meetings. However, recent data from the Pew Research Center presents a different outlook on global sentiment.

A Pew survey spanning 36 countries found a median confidence level of only 23% in Trump ‘to do the right thing regarding world affairs’. Confidence levels varied significantly by region, with the highest levels reported in the Philippines (68%), Israel (66%), and Nigeria (65%), while the lowest were recorded in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (4%) and Turkey (6%).

The survey also indicated a decline in the perception of the United States. The median favorable view of the U.S. across the surveyed nations was 37%, while 57% viewed the country unfavorably. Additionally, a Rockefeller Foundation survey of 34 countries reported declining comfort with the United States taking a leading role in global affairs. Economic indicators, including investor behavior regarding U.S. bonds and foreign governments' gold reserves, have also been cited as signs of shifting international perspectives.
