US Government Boosts AI Funding for Health Research and Defense

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a government‑wide artificial‑intelligence initiative aimed at halving the time required for biomedical discoveries to reach patients. The effort, part of the President’s Genesis Mission launched in November 2025, will focus on chronic disease, pediatric cancer and faster drug development, with the National Institutes of Health leading the Bio Genesis Mission and coordinating data across the NIH, FDA and ARPA‑Health.

Separately, the U.S. Department of Defense’s FY 2027 budget proposal totals $1.5 trillion, a 42 % increase and the largest annual rise since World War II. The plan earmarks $58.5 billion for artificial‑intelligence and joint all‑domain command and control, including a $29.5 billion “AI munitions factory” to build a new AI super‑computer system and secure data‑center network for strategic and tactical operations. Both initiatives underscore a broad federal push to embed AI across health and security sectors.
