U.S. Government Boosts Nuclear Power Industry with New Funding and Policy Support

The United States is expanding its nuclear power capacity, aiming to grow the fleet from about 100 GW today to 400 GW by 2050 under an executive order issued in May 2025. Federal backing includes regulatory easing, financing for start‑ups and existing firms, and a $1 billion loan to Constellation Energy to reopen and sustain nuclear plants.

Investors are being pointed to several entry points: uranium producer Cameco, renewable‑energy group Brookfield Renewable (which co‑owns Westinghouse, a major nuclear service provider), and companies developing small modular reactors such as NuScale Power, which is already working with a Romanian utility and the Tennessee Valley Authority. The broader policy push portrays nuclear energy as a carbon‑free, reliable baseload source essential for meeting the projected 60% rise in power demand over the next two decades.
