Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stated that a classified report from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demonstrates that offshore wind energy poses a security threat. Specific concerns include the rotating blades of turbines creating false radar targets, which could allow autonomous drones to pass through wind farms undetected. Additionally, vibrations from the towers may impact submarine sonar systems.

This move occurs alongside the President's stated goal of promoting fossil fuels to achieve global energy dominance. While national laboratories suggest that offshore wind capacity could meet the country's annual electricity consumption, the Pentagon continues to review construction plans and may designate certain areas as restricted zones to mitigate radar interference.
