The U.S. Department of Defense announced that the planned deployment of roughly 4,000 soldiers from the Black Jack heavy‑armor brigade to Poland has been stopped. Senator Jeanne Shaheen said she had received no advance notice, stating, “As far as I know we got no information about the Poland decision.” Pentagon spokesperson Joel Valdezi countered that the move was “not an unexpected last‑minute decision and it would be wrong to report it as such.” The troops, already en route and slated for a nine‑month stay, were part of a larger reorganization that earlier saw 5,000 U.S. soldiers withdrawn from Germany.
