U.S. high school football seasons feature regional rankings and player honors

High school football seasons are underway across several U.S. states, featuring various player honors and regional rankings.

In Alabama, Thompson remains the top-ranked team heading into week three, set to face second-ranked Vestavia Hills. Other notable movements in the state rankings include Hoover entering the top five and Central-Phenix City climbing back into the top five following a high-scoring victory. Weekly player nominees in Alabama include Will McKay of Prattville and Darion Moseley of Thompson.

In Mississippi, nominees for the Player of the Week include Trey Tippett, Kross Avent, and Jack Moore, among others, with voting concluding on September 6.

The Built Ford Tough program has announced its Week 1 honorees, with quarterbacks securing four of the six top positions. Notable winners include Cole Birkhead of Memorial and Jace Jablonski of Navasota. Zion Harness of Lake Belton was named the Class 6A winner.

In Minnesota, the 2026 preseason All-State teams have been announced. Moorhead leads the preseason rankings with five players selected, including quarterback Jett Feeney and running back Taye Reich. The University of Minnesota has secured seven commitments from these all-state selections.
