U.S. home insurance premiums fall in 16 states

Data from Insurance.com indicates that while homeowners insurance rates are rising across much of the United States, 16 states experienced a decrease in average annual premiums between 2025 and 2026.

Arkansas saw the most significant reduction, with premiums falling by $538. Other states with notable decreases include North Carolina (-$256), Missouri (-$196), North Dakota (-$136), and Mississippi (-$131). Moderate decreases were also reported in Washington D.C., Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Vermont.

Factors contributing to these decreases vary by region and include increased market competition, changes in insurer pricing, insurance discounts, targeted resilience grants for weatherproofing homes, and a slower-than-average storm season in 2025. Conversely, some states faced sharp increases, led by Nebraska (+$960), New Mexico (+$628), Colorado (+$548), and Florida (+$543).
