Lisa Gilbert of Public Citizen warned that Mullin’s personal business ties to DHS‑linked firms raise conflict‑of‑interest concerns, noting that “if the Republicans considered the stock‑trading of Noem problematic, they have not explained why Mullin’s are different.” Senator Ron Johnson (R‑WI) also expressed worry that aggressive deportation policies could hurt the dairy industry, which relies on undocumented labor.
