Claudia Sheinbaum launches electoral integrity commission, postpones judicial elections and signs maize‑price agreement

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a proposal to create a Commission of Integrity of Candidacies within the INE, which would review candidates’ links to organized crime and provide parties with risk assessments before the 2027 elections. The same government submitted a constitutional reform to shift the second judicial election from 2027 to 2028, aiming to avoid overlap with federal and gubernatorial contests.

Sheinbaum also celebrated a historic 5.1 % rise in Mexico’s peace index for 2025, the strongest improvement in a decade, citing reduced homicide rates and the National Security Strategy’s results. In parallel, she signed an agreement establishing a “price‑fair” system for white corn, creating a production‑ordering platform that prioritises national grain, supports small‑medium producers and sets price guarantees.

These actions reflect a broader push to strengthen electoral transparency, judicial scheduling, public safety and food‑security policies under Sheinbaum’s administration.
