U.S. hospital price transparency compliance rises to 49.4%

The nonprofit group Patient Rights Advocate (PRA) has sent a letter to President Donald Trump reporting a significant increase in hospital compliance with federal price transparency requirements. According to PRA’s Eighth Annual Hospital Price Transparency Compliance Report, 49.4% of reviewed U.S. hospitals are now compliant with the federal rule enacted in 2019. This represents a substantial rise from the 21.1% compliance rate recorded in November 2024.

While the letter praises the administration’s commitment to providing upfront pricing to reduce healthcare costs, it also highlights ongoing challenges. PRA noted that approximately half of the reviewed hospitals remain noncompliant, and more than 80% of hospitals do not post actual dollar-and-cents prices for most items and services, leaving many consumers without clear pricing information.
