US House Approves Funding for ICE Amid Immigration Debate

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 214‑212 to approve a three‑year funding package for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) within the Department of Homeland Security. The measure, which had already cleared the Republican‑controlled Senate, now awaits President Donald Trump's signature, ending a recent funding blockade that Democrats had imposed after reports of agency violence.

Democrats warned that the bill contains no safeguards on ICE operations. Representative Morgan McGarvey said, "With $70 billion we could end homelessness in America. It's far better than giving that money to ICE." Representative Pramila Jayapal accused Republicans of passing the legislation without safety mechanisms. The House’s approval ensures ICE will continue to operate without budget interruption beyond the current presidential term.
