U.S. House Committee unveils package to combat healthcare fraud

The U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce has introduced a policy package aimed at combating fraudulent activities and protecting public health programs.

A central component of this package is H.R. 10621, the Medicaid Fraud Fighting and Taxpayer Protection Act, sponsored by Congressman Morgan Griffith. The bill seeks to incentivize states to implement program integrity tools to investigate fraud. Under the proposed legislation, states would be permitted to receive an increased portion of the federal funds saved through successful fraud identification, which can then be used to support various state programs.

Additionally, the committee is addressing theft within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Congressman Griffith is a co-sponsor of H.R. 3887, the SNAP Anti-Theft and Victim Compensation Act. This legislation proposes new civil penalties for the unauthorized use or transfer of SNAP benefits and allows states to use benefits to reimburse households that have had their benefits stolen through no fault of their own.
