US House Republicans plan crackdown on Flock surveillance cameras
House Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated that the House will consider legislation targeting Flock automated surveillance cameras during the upcoming lame-duck session following the November elections.
Republican efforts include a bill by Rep. Tim Burchett that would prohibit federal agencies from purchasing or accessing automated surveillance technology. A separate proposal from Rep. Thomas Massie would ban federal funding for these camera systems and require agencies to dismantle existing ones within 180 days.
In response to growing surveillance concerns, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders have introduced their own legislation seeking to restrict the controversial technology. Lawmakers from both parties have expressed opposition to the mass surveillance capabilities provided by the systems.
