US housing industry and consumer advocates launch opposing initiatives
A coalition of major housing industry players, including Realtor.com, Zillow, and the National Association of Home Builders, has expanded the ‘Let America Build’ initiative into a national campaign. The group aims to address a reported 4.03 million-home supply gap in the United States by focusing on public education and local action regarding zoning, permitting, and land use.
Simultaneously, a group of consumer and housing advocacy organizations is calling for increased regulatory scrutiny of the real estate sector. These advocates are urging state attorneys general to investigate dominant listing platforms, referral-fee systems, and ‘pocket listing’ strategies. They argue these practices distort the market and contribute to high costs for buyers and renters, citing recent regulatory actions against companies like Zillow and Redfin as precedents for necessary enforcement.
