Under the previous administration, a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) directive prioritized “diversity and inclusive communities” and the doctrine of “disparate impact,” which led major online real estate companies like Zillow and Realtor.com to stop providing neighborhood crime data.

Despite the federal revocation of these policies, challenges remain. State-level regulations in locations such as New York continue to prevent real estate agents from discussing crime and school quality freely with potential buyers.
