U.S. HSI and Puerto de Santa Marta Hold Anti-Arms Trafficking Workshop

The U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) division of ICE partnered with the Sociedad Portuaria de Santa Marta to conduct a two‑day workshop at the Puerto de Santa Marta. The event gathered Colombian customs officials (DIAN), the Customs Police, the Anti‑Narcotics Police, the National Army, port managers and judges to share strategies for preventing illicit arms trafficking through the country’s major Caribbean ports.

Participants toured the port facilities, reviewed security investments such as a new $6 million container‑scanner operated by the Anti‑Narcotics Police, and received a special recognition from HSI for the port’s ongoing cooperation with U.S. authorities. The training emphasized coordinated inspections, technology use and joint operational protocols to safeguard maritime trade against weapons smuggling.
