U.S. ICE conducts nationwide sweeps, arresting and deporting criminal illegal immigrants

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out a series of coordinated operations across the country, detaining illegal immigrants with serious criminal convictions. Arrests included Jose Solorzano Felix in Utah, who faced attempted murder of a federal officer; Paulino Lugos Perez in California for lewd acts against a child; Adrian Valdez Lopez in North Carolina for second‑degree forcible rape; gang member Edgar Josue Centeno in California; and Rodolfo Umana in New York, previously convicted of robbery. DHS officials linked the actions to directives from the Trump administration to remove high‑risk individuals.

In a related case, DHS announced the deportation of Tou Lue Vang, a Laotian national previously pardoned by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz despite a conviction for repeated sexual assault of a 10‑year‑old. After the pardon, the Trump administration moved to terminate Vang’s legal status and deport him, highlighting tensions over sanctuary policies and immigration enforcement.
