US ICE detains 10,000 migrants in five days

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested roughly 10,000 people over a five‑day period, averaging about 2,000 detentions per day. This marks a sharp rise from the December average of 1,200‑1,300 daily arrests. The surge is part of ICE’s strategic shift toward less visible enforcement actions rather than high‑profile raids.

Detention center populations grew to around 39,000 in June, up from about 30,000 in February. ICE officials reiterated that anyone who enters the country illegally will be located, detained, and deported. In separate incidents in Minnesota, two American citizens were shot dead by ICE agents in January, identified as 37‑year‑old Renee Good and 37‑year‑old Alex Prett.
