The Department of Homeland Security announced a new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) roundup targeting illegal aliens convicted of serious crimes such as aggravated assault, battery, terrorist threats and drug trafficking. Advocacy groups attribute the rising mortality to chronic medical neglect, overcrowding and inadequate mental‑health care in detention facilities, urging federal authorities to address systemic shortcomings.
