US immigration authorities conduct sweeps in North Carolina and California

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents carried out a series of detentions across North Carolina over the weekend, with reported arrests in Charlotte, Durham, Reidsville, Duplin, Mount Holly and Graham. Witnesses described agents in civilian attire, green or brown tactical vests and ICE insignia, operating in the early morning hours. One documented case involved a naturalized Honduran citizen arrested near South Boulevard in Charlotte, who produced a U.S. passport but was held on a prior 2019 warrant.

In California, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in the El Centro sector intercepted two separate smuggling attempts in Westmorland, Imperial County, detaining a total of 34 undocumented migrants. Seven were found in a Chevrolet Tahoe, and a further 27 were concealed inside a mini dump‑truck trailer. The agency announced the operations via social media, noting the successful disruption of the smuggling routes.
