US immigration policy targets 22 Senegalese nationals on dangerous migrant list

The United States administration has updated its list of undocumented migrants deemed particularly dangerous, titled the ‘US Worst of the Worst’. According to reports, 22 Senegalese nationals are included on this list. The classification targets individuals allegedly associated with serious criminal activities, such as sexual violence, kidnappings, or theft. However, being listed is an administrative designation by authorities and does not constitute a judicial ruling of guilt.

Senegalese nationals are part of a broader crackdown affecting several West African countries. Nigeria has the highest number of individuals on the list with 134, followed by Liberia with 111, Ghana with 44, and Cape Verde with 26. Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia each have 15 individuals listed.

In tandem with these enforcement measures, Washington is increasing cooperation with African nations to facilitate the repatriation of deported individuals. For example, an agreement with Sierra Leone allows for the reception of up to 300 ECOWAS citizens expelled from the US annually. A recent flight under this arrangement arrived in Freetown carrying migrants from several nations, including Senegal.
