US implements economic warfare strategy against Iran
The United States has shifted its strategy toward intensive economic warfare against Iran, a move President Trump described as an “Economic D-Day.” Following a failed military campaign in February that targeted the Iranian regime but resulted in damage to US military installations and regional instability, the White House is now focusing on choking Iran’s financial resources.
Proposed measures include halting oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and the use of front companies. The objective is to squeeze the regime’s primary sources of hard currency to force a new deal.
Despite these pressures, reports indicate that Iran is rapidly restoring its ballistic missile production and infrastructure, with satellite imagery showing reopened underground facilities. While sanctions and naval blockades have driven oil exports to multi-year lows, analysts suggest the Iranian ruling elite may be prepared to endure short-term economic hardship to preserve their power, potentially leveraging control over the Strait of Hormuz to regain revenue in the future.
