US import prices rise 7.1% YoY in June 2026
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the import price index increased by 0.3% in June 2026 and climbed 7.1% on a year‑on‑year basis, marking the strongest annual gain since August 2022. The jump was driven primarily by non‑fuel imports, which rose 4.2% over the 12‑month period, especially chemicals and finished non‑metals such as boxes, belting and glass. Fuel imports fell 0.7% in June, but natural‑gas import prices surged 9.2%, contributing to a 44.1% annual rise in fuels and lubricants imports. At the same time, the export price index slipped 0.6% after previously rising, the first monthly decline since May 2025.
These movements reflect ongoing volatility in global commodity markets and may influence inflation expectations and trade‑policy discussions in the United States.
