US inflation expectations reach highest level since May 2023
US consumer inflation expectations for the next year have reached their highest level since May 2023. According to the New York Fed Survey of Consumer Expectations, the median one-year inflation expectation rose to 3.9 percent, up from 3.6 percent in the previous month.
Three-year inflation expectations also increased to 3.3 percent from 3.2 percent, while five-year expectations remained stable at 3.0 percent. Additionally, median expectations for spending growth rose to 5.5 percent, the highest level since May 2023, and median income growth expectations reached 3.1 percent.
Regarding the labor market, the perceived likelihood of job loss over the next 12 months decreased to 13.5 percent, the lowest since December 2024. However, consumer sentiment regarding current and future financial situations has declined compared to the previous year.
