Central Bank of Türkiye keeps policy rate at 37 percent

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (TCMB) has decided to keep its policy rate unchanged at 37 percent during its September meeting. Other key rates, including the overnight lending rate at 40 percent and the overnight borrowing rate at 35.5 percent, also remain unchanged.

In a statement, the Monetary Policy Committee noted that while recent inflation data and leading indicators suggest a decline in the underlying inflation trend, geopolitical developments causing high energy prices pose an upward risk to the inflation outlook. The bank emphasized that a tight monetary policy stance will be maintained until price stability is achieved, with future decisions being made on a meeting-by-meeting basis.

TCMB President Fatih Karahan noted that annual inflation fell to 31.5 percent in August, though supply shocks continue to impact headline inflation. Meanwhile, market participants' year-end consumer inflation expectations have risen slightly to 29.61 percent. In response to the decision, DENIB President Osman Uğurlu supported the fight against inflation but called for easier access to financing for the export and production sectors to maintain competitiveness.
