US Intelligence Agencies Confirm China Accessed Voter Data Amid Disputed Trump Claims

The heads of four U.S. intelligence and national‑security agencies — the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Department of Homeland Security — approved a White House fact sheet stating that China and its proxies obtained voter‑registration data for as many as 220 million Americans. The sheet, released on July 30, cites declassified intelligence documents and defines election interference to include foreign targeting of voter‑registration infrastructure.

Subsequent reporting found that most of the states listed as “compromised” say no breach occurred. Florida’s Department of State spokesperson confirmed that its voter‑registration data has not been hacked, and twelve of fifteen states reported no notification of any breach. Experts note that the data appears to have been collected for intelligence purposes rather than to alter vote totals.
