Mexico and U.S. launch mirror operations in Tamaulipas following border shooting reports

Mexico and the United States have initiated coordinated 'mirror operations' along the border in Tamaulipas to prevent misunderstandings following reports of gunfire involving U.S. Coast Guard personnel. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that these operations, which were previously agreed upon, aim to maintain security while respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The deployment follows reports from U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson that Coast Guard members came under fire near the border. While the U.S. has provided partial evidence regarding the incident, President Sheinbaum noted that Mexican authorities have found no evidence that shots originated from Mexican territory.

To bolster security, Mexico has deployed approximately 500 military and National Guard personnel to five municipalities in Tamaulipas, supported by helicopters and drones. These forces are conducting simultaneous patrols on the Mexican side of the border to complement U.S. efforts and mitigate risks from criminal organizations.
