US-Iran agreement sparks talks with France and Germany
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and French Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Baro held a phone conversation to discuss the implementation of the recent US‑Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Iran said the agreement aims to end the war imposed by the United States and Israel.
French President Emmanuel Macron, working with Oman, has said France is helping secure safe passage for ships through the Hormuz Strait, including plans to remove explosive tunnels in the waterway. Iran’s deputy foreign minister Kajem Gharibadi countered that only Iran will carry out any tunnel removal, rejecting foreign involvement.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefuhl met U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington, reiterating German support for the US‑Iran MOU. He called the agreement a fragile but important diplomatic step, stressing the need for safe, uninterrupted navigation in Hormuz and for a long‑term solution that also addresses Iran’s nuclear programme to prevent future security threats.
