U.S.-Iran conflict enters seventh month amid economic and defense shifts
The conflict involving the United States and Iran is entering its seventh month, despite initial predictions from President Donald Trump that the military action would be a short-term engagement lasting only a few weeks. The ongoing war of attrition has led to significant economic consequences, including record-high diesel prices in the U.S. and fuel supply disruptions for airlines. Additionally, Saudi Aramco has canceled deliveries to several European refineries.
In the context of global drone warfare, L3Harris technology is being utilized to counter low-cost attack drones. Footage from Ukraine shows the L3Harris Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment (VAMPIRE) system successfully using laser-guided rockets to intercept Russian Shahed-136 drones. This method offers a more cost-effective alternative to traditional missile systems, as the interceptor rockets cost approximately $22,000 compared to the $50,000 cost of the target drones.
Amidst these developments, L3Harris recently underwent a leadership change following the dismissal of CEO Christopher Kubasik due to conduct inconsistent with company values. Sam Mehta has assumed the role of CEO.
