US and Iran trade seventh night of strikes, widening Gulf conflict
The United States carried out its seventh consecutive night of airstrikes against Iran, hitting military logistics sites, bridges, an airport and other infrastructure in Hormozgan and other southern provinces. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard responded with missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria and Oman, and warned that if U.S. attacks continue for “two or three days” Tehran will launch a full‑scale offensive.
The escalating exchange has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, reducing vessel traffic to a three‑week low and pushing Brent crude up more than 4 % to its highest level in a month. Iranian officials also threatened to close the Red Sea route. United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres called the attacks on civilian infrastructure “unacceptable” and urged restraint.
Both sides have claimed civilian casualties and damage to power, water‑desalination plants and bridges. The fighting continues to involve U.S. allies in the Gulf, raising concerns about broader regional security and global energy supplies.
