Middle East security alert issued by US following Houthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia FAST-MOVING
The United States Department of State has issued high-level security alerts for its citizens across the Middle East, warning of a complex security environment and the potential for rapid, unforeseen military escalation. The advisory, which covers countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Israel, urges travelers to prepare for potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and significant travel disruptions.
The warnings follow recent hostilities by Iran-backed Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabian air defenses successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched toward Riyadh, while other attempted strikes targeted areas such as Baish, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu. The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for targeting sensitive sites in Riyadh and an Aramco facility in Yanbu.
In response to the regional instability, President Donald Trump returned to the White House earlier than scheduled following a stay at Camp David, amid reports that he was reviewing potential strike options in Yemen. Additionally, China has reportedly privately urged Iran to restrain the Houthi movement to prevent further disruption to vital shipping routes and energy corridors in the Red Sea.
