US issues travel advisory for Ecuador amid curfews

The United States government has updated its security warnings for citizens traveling to Ecuador, specifically addressing new nighttime mobility restrictions established under Executive Decree 519.

A mandatory curfew will be in effect from midnight to 5:00 AM daily between November 1 and November 10, 2026, in the coastal provinces of Guayas, Manabí, Los Ríos, El Oro, and Esmeraldas. US consular guidelines advise citizens to suspend non-essential travel during these hours and to comply with local law enforcement. Travelers heading to airports during these times are urged to carry passports and boarding passes, noting limited availability of taxis and ride-sharing services.

Ecuador remains at a Level 2 risk rating, with warnings regarding crime, terrorism, kidnapping, and social unrest. Certain areas, including the Pascuales and Nueva Prosperina districts in Guayaquil, are classified under a ‘do not travel’ advisory due to extreme insecurity and armed violence.
