US, Japan, and South Korea reaffirm trilateral alliance in New York

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi met in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to reaffirm their trilateral alliance. The diplomats issued a joint statement emphasizing a resolute commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The three nations called for the DPRK to resume dialogue and expressed support for international mechanisms designed to prevent the regime from generating revenue for its nuclear and ballistic missile programs. They also raised concerns regarding North Korean cyber activities, specifically the use of IT workers to fund weapons programs.

Beyond the Korean Peninsula, the ministers addressed regional stability in the Indo-Pacific. They underscored the importance of peace across the Taiwan Strait, opposing unilateral attempts to change the status quo and supporting Taiwan's participation in international organizations. The group also emphasized the necessity of maintaining freedom of navigation and lawful commerce throughout the region.
