US Justice Department ends anti‑weaponization fund
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told a House appropriations subcommittee that the Justice Department will not move forward with the $1.776 billion anti‑weaponization fund. The fund, established as part of a settlement between former President Donald Trump and the IRS, was intended to compensate individuals who claim they were targeted by “law‑fare.” No commission was ever appointed, no claims were filed, and the fund was never funded.
Lawmakers from both parties voiced strong opposition. Some Republicans threatened to block immigration‑related spending unless the fund was scrapped, while Democrats warned the fund could be used to pay Jan 6 Capitol rioters. The department’s decision ends the pending proposal and removes the controversial provision that would have shielded Trump and his family from tax audits.
