U.S. Department of Justice launches mass denaturalization and election crime cases

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched two major legal actions targeting non-citizens. First, the department is pursuing the revocation of citizenship for 40 naturalized Americans, a move Attorney General Todd Blanche described as the “largest denaturalization effort in modern history.” These cases, filed between late August and early October, allege that the individuals obtained citizenship through fraud or by concealing material facts, such as criminal histories involving espionage, sexual offenses against minors, money laundering, and tax evasion.

Simultaneously, the DOJ has announced charges against 16 foreign nationals for election-related crimes. These cases, spanning federal districts in Florida, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, involve allegations of illegal voting by non-citizens, fraudulent voter registration, and making false claims of U.S. citizenship. The defendants include individuals from various countries, such as Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Italy, and North Macedonia, who are accused of participating in the 2024 federal elections despite not being eligible to vote.
