US kitchen renovation spending hits $24,000 median in 2025

According to the 2026 US Houzz & Home Study, American homeowners reached a new high in kitchen renovation spending in 2025. The median spend for kitchen projects rose 9.1% from the previous year to reach $24,000. Major kitchen remodels saw a median cost of $55,000, while minor projects averaged $20,000. The scale of spending was also influenced by kitchen size, with larger kitchens seeing median major remodel costs of $75,000 compared to $46,000 for smaller spaces.

Despite this recent activity, homeowners appear to be adopting a more cautious approach for the coming year. The median planned renovation spend for 2026 is projected to be $15,000, representing a 25% decrease from 2025 levels. Marine Sargsyan, head of economic research at Houzz, noted that while homeowners are taking a more cautious approach, renovation activity continues at historic levels due to pent-up demand.
