U.S. law enforcement conducts targeted immigration and border security operations

Federal law enforcement agencies have conducted significant enforcement operations targeting immigration and border security violations. In the Southern District of Texas, authorities filed 217 new cases between October 16 and October 23 as part of ‘Operation Take Back America’. These cases include 165 criminal complaints for felony reentry after prior removal and 24 charges for illegal entry. Many of those charged have prior felony convictions involving narcotics, violent crime, and other immigration offenses. One individual, an El Salvadoran national, faces up to 20 years in prison for felony reentry, while a Guatemalan national was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for his third unlawful reentry.

In Massachusetts, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested at least 82 individuals during a three-day targeted operation. Officials reported that those detained had criminal histories including assault, battery of a child, possession of child sexual assault material, extortion, and driving under the influence. ICE Boston Field Office Director Joseph Sher criticized Massachusetts sanctuary policies, stating that local politicians have prioritized dangerous criminal aliens over law-abiding citizens.
