U.S. lawmakers address nurse strike risks and survivor restitution legislation

Massachusetts lawmakers, including Representatives Ayanna Pressley, Richard Neal, and others, along with Senators Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren, have issued a joint statement urging Mass General Brigham (MGB) and the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA) to continue negotiations. The goal is to reach an agreement and avert a potential strike at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Separately, Representatives Ayanna Pressley, Teresa Leger Fernandez, and Deborah Ross have introduced the Survivors Rights Restitution Act. This federal legislation aims to establish a restitution program for survivors of sexual violence whose rights were violated by the federal government, specifically citing cases such as those involving Jeffrey Epstein. The bill proposes creating an independent Office of Special Adjudicators for Survivors Restitution within the US Court of Federal Claims to provide compensation for economic and non-economic harms through a trauma-informed process.
